The tour "Naples
Christmas market" begins in Piazza Bellini, where you can visit the
remains of the ancient Greek walls. Walk along to Piazza del Gesù, one of
the most famous squares in Naples where you can admire the imposing Renaissance
facade of Gesu Nuovo Church and the Obelisk of the “Immacolatella”. MINIMUM 4
PAX TO START THE TOUR.
An
historical symbol of Piazza del Gesù is Palazzo Pandola, which is one of the
most recurring sets of Neapolitan cinema. For example, Palazzo Pandola hoste Count
Prospero B. (Vittorio De Sica), who repeatedly challenges the goalkeeper's son
to cards in “L’oro di Napoli”. The building overlooking the famous Piazza del
Gesù also becomes the home of Filumena Marturano (Sofia Loren) in “Matrimonio
all’italiana”.
Then,
explore Spaccanapoli, an arterial road of the ancient center of Naples,
which seems to divide the Neapolitan city in two parts: it starts at the top,
from the “Quartieri spagnoli”, and get to the popular district of Forcella.
Here, you can admire architectural masterpieces, such as the medieval church of
Santa Chiara, made famous all over the world by Anne Radcliffe in her gothic
novel "L'italiano".
Stop
at an historic café where you will find a sanctuary dedicated to the Neapolitan
football star Diego Maradona and enjoy an authentic espresso.
Continue
your walk through San Gregorio Armeno where you will not only be able
to admire Banksy's exclusive mural works and many other examples of street art
along the way, but you will be able to see many artisan shops where the typical
Neapolitan "Nativity Scenes" (Presepi) are made.
The
tour is even more irresistible by immersing yourself in the magical Christmas
atmosphere made in Naples that you can find above all in these areas.
The ancient heart of the city is festively decorated for the Christmas time
and, along via San Gregorio Armeno, you can visit the many Christmas shops and
stalls full of shepherds and decorations. The tradition of the Neapolitan nativity scene
is renewed year after year but at the same time maintains its traditional
imprint, which began several centuries ago.
The
tour ends at the Cathedral dedicated to San Gennaro. Our guide will tell you
the story of the patron saint of Naples and the miracle of the liquefaction of
his blood.
